Dyslexie font

Dear Parents,
I wonder if you've noticed that some of the work coming home from school is printed in a different font.  This font is called Dyslexie font and is designed for people with dyslexia to make reading, learning and working easier.
Every letter is uniquely shaped and increases the ease of reading for people with dyslexia.
It was designed by a Dutch dyslexic student who felt it helped him to read more easily.
We've installed it on our computers for everyone to use - it's very subtly different.

More Photos of today's Cooking Event

Delicious!

Today Year 6 was a part of an amazing teaching and learning experience.  Through the generosity of Miguel Maestre, Cameron Johnston and a group of dedicated and servant-hearted Year 6 Mums, we were able to take part in a cooking extravaganza.  Miguel and Mr Johnston taught us how to make Zucchini Pasta using a spiraliser, then combine sunflower seeds, olive oil, lemon, garlic and lots of basil to create the most delicious pesto sauce.  We also used safe food handling techniques, always washing our hands and being especially careful when cutting and grating.  The other ingredients included chorizo, tomato and parmesan cheese, and when the chorizo was cooking in the pan the smell was just divine.  In fact the whole Flexiroom smelt of basil, garlic and chorizo, what an enticing aroma!

The students all agreed that it was just delicious and when we served it up for the Year 1's and our Kindy buddies, they were all hoping for just a little more.

A huge thank you to Miguel and Mr Johnston, we could not have experienced this without your leadership and expertise.  Another huge thank you to all the Mums who helped today - Mrs Morgan, Mrs Eden, Mrs Coates, Mrs Solanki, Ms Connelly, and also to the many Mums and Dads who sent in utensils for us to use such as mortar and pestles, graters and spiralisers.  Thank you - especially for dealing with that huge pile of washing up!  What a team.

Here are some of the students' reflections on today...

Chloe Hamill - Today with the wonderful Miguel it was really amazing learning about healthy food and what’s healthy, and what’s not. We made zucchini pesto pasta with tomatoes and sunflower seeds.  It was really fun today.

James Coates - The dispositions that I used today were, Reciprocity, Empathy & Listening.  I used these when Miguel was talking about healthy eating, and food safety. Later on, when we were preparing the ingredients, I used Reciprocity, Collaboration to help assist our team.

Will Archer - The disposition I think I used is today was under RECIPROCITY and it was collaboration.  The way I did that was by collaborating with Charlie and Charlotte to prepare the ingredients.  I also used managing distractions so I wouldn't go over and look at other peoples food and try it instead of focusing on what I had to get done.  Anyway, I really enjoyed it.

Karishma Solanki - I used collaboration, empathy and listening and imitation. I used collaboration while working with my team to make the zucchini noodles with pesto. Listening to Miguel so I know what to do. Imitation when watching Miguel make the dish. I enjoyed making the zucchini noodles.

Tess Elmslie - I think l used collaboration and empathy and listening, l used collaboration by working with my team well, l used empathy and listening by listening to Miguel’s instructions on how to cook.

Miles Eden - Year 6 and I had the most amazing day making healthy food for ourselves and our buddies in Kindy and friends in Year 1.  I think used collaboration because Fenn, Tyler and I had to work together to make the pesto.  We rotated making the pesto and we evenly spread out the roles in the kitchen.  Miguel and Mr. Johnston did a great job teaching us to eat healthy and how to cook.

Sam Wiles - Doing the healthy cooking really took lots of “collaboration” when preparing a meal with others I know as friends, and some I don’t know so well. But in the end the zucchini noodles tasted AMAZING and I think the little Kindy and Year 1’s loved it as much as I did. It was an honour to cook with Miguel and Mr Johnston and I liked the fruit costumes and my Chef Hat.
