Hot Chocolate Success!
Another fun and exciting event was held by Year 6 today. Our final Hot Chocolate fundraiser with all the money going to Bear Cottage. The students were extremely helpful and so excited to serve the rest of the school. With a last minute venue change due to the weather, we served each year group in the undercroft in front of the canteen.
We are so grateful for the help of our fabulous parents in the successful running of today's event. Special mention to Cameron Johnston, Nick Kelly, Hugh Coates, Bonnie Wiles and Claire Eden for their limitless enthusiasm and patience. Much appreciated!
We have yet to tally the final takings for the day that will all be donated to Bear Cottage. So watch this space and we will let you know once the final count is complete and the float deducted.
Once again - well done everyone!

Hot Chocolate Day This Thursday!
Year 6 has their second last fundraising event this week on Thursday. It is Hot Chocolate Day! We will be running it at recess again down in the valley. If you are able to bring a packet of chocolate chip cookies to sell with the Hot Chocolate, that would be great. It is not a requirement to bake cakes for this. It is not a component of the GD, just our Hot chocolate fundraiser so bring yourself, some cookies and a great big smile.

Week 8 Already?!
We are coming toward the end of Term 3 of Year 6 - can you believe it?
We have been working with mass and capacity this week, trying to formulate a procedure for measuring the mass of 1L of water. The photos below show our investigations. It was a good discussion afterwards about the importance of measuring accurately, and to remember that we cannot include the mass of the container in the final result. We then went on to investigate how to reproduce a given 3D object (a cube with patterned sides) correctly when recreating it on a net of that solid. It was helpful to discuss the different ways that students tackled this problem.
In English we have been analysing, reading and writing informative texts, including factual descriptions. As a class we brainstormed ideas about Uluru, divided those ideas into subheadings, then split into groups to write a paragraph for each subheading for our joint description. Each group worked together to investigate the accuracy of the facts we had brainstormed, then created their own paragraph that we then put together to create the complete description. You can see their contributions and groups in the photos below.
We also rounded out the week with our Public Speaking Competition Finals. Our Year 6 finalists were Will and Sam. Both students spoke very well, engaging and entertaining the audience effectively. Bravo! Sam was awarded the win for Stage 3 among some tough competition from Will, Siena and Azaniah. Well done to all the finalists and well done Sam.
The Graduation Diploma speeches were heard over this past fortnight by both myself and Mrs Bennett and we were both extremely impressed with the passion, skill and effective delivery techniques demonstrated by the students. Each student has received today personal feedback and completed a reflection on the process. It was a privilege to hear these well prepared speeches.
